Grand-Place of Brussels: Closing of the 2026 Flower Carpet
Just hours before the Flower Carpet is dismantled, the organisers are drawing up the balance sheet for this 24th edition. Marking the 160th anniversary of Belgian-Japanese relations, the 750,000 dahlias making up the design imagined by artist Hiro Sugiyama offered, despite the heat, a mesmerising sight to some 20,800 visitors from the City Hall balcony.
Another successful edition
Alongside these visitor numbers, the Flower Carpet also generates significant benefits for the City of Brussels and its economic stakeholders. "It is with immense pride and great satisfaction that we close this 24th edition of the Flower Carpet. By attracting tens, even hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world, the event once again confirms its place among the great highlights of the Brussels summer. This edition, dedicated to Japan, has once more showcased the full beauty of our capital and brought the Grand-Place's reputation far beyond our borders. I would like to warmly thank Japan for this wonderful collaboration, as well as everyone who helped make this edition another success," summarises the Alderwoman for Culture, Tourism and Major Events in the City of Brussels, President of the non-profit organisation Tapis de Fleurs de Bruxelles, which organises the event.
Over four days, despite the heat, the queues to admire the Great Wave off Kanagawa on one of Europe's most beautiful squares never let up. In total, 20,800 visitors were able to enjoy an elevated view of this ephemeral artwork from the City Hall balcony.
"Once again this year, we could count on the visitors' enthusiasm. Year after year, the Flower Carpet has established itself as a not-to-be-missed, unifying event. This collective success is one we're eager to share with new partners keen to join us on this wonderful journey," concludes Richard Poncin, board member of the non-profit organisation Tapis de Fleurs de Bruxelles.

While awaiting the 2028 edition of the Flower Carpet, the organisers invite you to next year's edition of Flower Time, a floral exhibition held inside Brussels City Hall.
